Career Mistakes you don’t want to make in 2018

I’m just going to act like I don’t know that today is the 14th day of January and say happy new year.  Happy new year guys!!

This is my first post of the year and this salutation feels pretty appropriate.

Is it just me or is January just hard?

My biggest issue with this January is that while everyone is moving on with their life and going back to business as usual, I am in a funk wallowing in “What am I going to do with my life?”  Like seriously, where should I start?

Heavy, I know.

One major lesson I have learnt this month has been PATIENCE. Truth is this thing called life requires a lot of patience. Patience with ourselves, patience with people, patience when chasing that opportunity you have always wanted, just a whole lot of patience.

Someone told me the other day that the problem with our generation is that we want to make money like yesterday – that would be great though right? 🙂 Point is to find fulfilment first and the rest will follow.  Being sort of passionate about what you are doing right now will probably not get you to the finish line.

Now, finding fulfilment has been keeping me up in the night – more so this month now that the festivities are over and I wanted to share this post today in case someone is doing some difficult soul searching and needs some encouragement to keep on instead of choosing the easy way out.

PS: I am not encouraging anyone to quit their job or anything like that. My point here is to encourage you to start putting in time into something that you love to do and start working towards that thing.

A few pointers guiding me through this soul searching process:

  • If the idea won’t go away, that means you should go for it.
  • Listen to your gut.
  • Ask for help! You cannot do everything on your own and it’s okay to ask for help.

Let us chase fulfilment guys!! Happy Monday!
